Mercury Silver Dimes - Background & Design:
Weinman’s design featured on the obverse a young woman wearing a cap with wings on her head. On the reverse the dime had a bundle of sticks with an axe blade all tied together with straps, making the ancient symbol of a fasces, which was surrounded by an olive branch.
Mercury Dime Grading Scale & Guidelines:
As understood and in relation to condition notes and guidelines, a mercury dime in "Extremely Fine" condition typically shows minor, slight, noticeable wear on the highest parts of the coin. Most of the details should be strong and sharp, and all design elements are visible and defined. Some traces of mint luster may still exist.
Obverse: A large majority of detail on Lady Liberty's head are visible but show signs of wear. Her cheek, midpoint of the wing, and neckline may show flatness. The hairline on her forehead is mostly defined. Most visible details are strong and crisp. Some residual mint luster may still exist in the protected areas of the coin.
Reverse: The rods in the fasces are mostly visible and are defined showing some separation. The horizontal and diagonal bands are visible and distinct but may show some wear and flatness.
