for the
BOX CAR CHIEF
old time UC stunt.
The 1947
BOX CAR CHIEF
from
Ricks Model Company
had a thick airfoil and its shoulder wing was held in place with rubber bands---not a wise idea today. But back then engines were using ignition timing and turned about 7-8,000 rpms. So they didn't put the strain on a plane that later higher rpm engines do. So the answer was to strengthen the original great stunt design for modern needs. The ad I show for the BOX-CAR CHIEF ran in a 1948 Air Trails magazine.
Here is an updated
PLAN
for an Old Time Stunt plane that allows you to use a nice Fox .35. The wing span is 42" and the chord is 9-1/2" for 400 squares. The fuselage is a sheet-sided box with sheeting on the top and bottom. The wing is straight and needs only one rib pattern. It couldn't be any easier to build than this.
This is one REALLY LARGE
PLAN
. I include a copy of the
construction
article
on this plane.
